Queensland Museum South Bank will be offering back of house tours in two areas: the Biodiversity collections stores and the Cultures & Histories collections stores.

Tours: Pre-booked back-of-house guided tours of the Biodiversity and Cultures and Histories stores.

Tour tip: Wear enclosed shoes

Biodiversity tours will include viewing specimens spanning the entire animal kingdom, including extinct and endangered species. It will also include viewing of some of the state of the art research techniques used by  scientists, including high definition digital imaging.

Cultures & Histories tours will include viewing of some important objects from the collection, including the Marson collection of rare musical instruments and objects associated with the German World War One tank, Mephisto - the only one of its kind in the world.

Built: Original 1986, entrance redesigned in 2004.

Architects: Robin Gibson and Partners. Gibson returned in 2004 to design the sleek new glass entrance way to the Museum and the Sciencentre.

Robin Gibson and Partners were awarded with the '25 Year Award for Enduring Architecture' by the Queensland Chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects.

Did you know...
After years of preying on fish in the depths of the Southern Ocean, being pulled out of the water by New Zealand Hoki fishermen, spending 2 years frozen in a block of ice at Underwater World on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland Museum South Bank collection area has become the final resting place of a well-travelled, young male, 7 metres long (!), Giant Squid.
