In 2007, the State Library won awards from the Royal Australian Institute of Architecture (RAIA), both on a state and national level, including the RAIA Emil Sodersten Award for Interior Architecture and the prestigious Sir Zelman Cowen Award for Public Architecture.

Underground and adjacent to the State Library is the River Pump Room, which creates chilled water in a centralised location for the entire Queensland Cultural Centre.
