The sandstone tablet above the Drake Street entrance is inscribed ‘ESTABLISHED 1873’, which was the year that Quaker Thomas Coar Dixon commenced his business. In 1928 the Duke of York (later King George VI) was photographed in this doorway after inspecting the Thomas Dixon factory.
